About Without by Ashaya
Without by Ashaya is transforming what was once considered “impossible to recycle” into products that are both functional and meaningful. The startup uses proprietary, patented technology to extract high-quality materials from multi-layer plastic (MLP) waste, like chip packets and chocolate wrappers, which typically end up in landfills.
Their process separates and chemically demetallises each layer of MLP, yielding approximately 70% polyolefins and 30% PET monomer—both of which are compounded into high-grade recycled polymers. The result is durable, high-performance materials that power products like the world’s first sunglasses made entirely from chip packets.
But Without is as much about people as it is about plastic. The company integrates waste pickers into its supply chain with dignity and intention, offering safer working conditions, paid leave, health insurance, and wages that are double the industry norm, thereby building a more just and sustainable circular economy.
Without by Ashaya at MIF’s Scale-Up
Inducted into MIF’s Scale-Up program in March 2024, Without continues to demonstrate immense potential and momentum of its technology to drive a circular economy. MIF is currently supporting Without in three core areas: Advancing R&D to convert PET monomers from MLP waste into rePET; mentorship on designing a new factory; and strategic guidance to refine growth plans.
