About Zerocircle

Zerocircle is addressing the global plastics crisis with an innovative solution: fully bio-based, biodegradable packaging made from seaweed. Unlike conventional bioplastics that often require industrial facilities to degrade, Zerocircle’s seaweed-based biopolymers are natural, non-toxic, and home-compostable, ensuring minimal environmental footprint.

As the only company in India to commercialise seaweed—a low-investment raw material that naturally absorbs around 120 kg of CO₂ per tonne—Zerocircle is pioneering a scalable alternative to petroleum-based and even other bio-based plastics. Their current product line includes sustainable films, coatings, and wood-free paper designed to be produced with existing machinery, with applications extending across the food, pharmaceutical, and paper industries.

Most bioplastics rely on agricultural feedstock, raising concerns around food security and land use. Many also end up in landfills due to limited disposal infrastructure, releasing methane as they degrade. Zerocircle’s seaweed-based biopolymers avoid these pitfalls. They match the performance of traditional plastics and outperform most sustainable alternatives on both environmental impact and cost-efficiency.

Though currently priced at a 40% premium to plastic, Zerocircle expects to cut costs by 20% over the next two years, making it a strong contender in the $176.9 billion biodegradable packaging market.

Zerocircle at MIF’s Scale-Up

Zerocircle was onboarded into MIF’s no-equity accelerator in April 2025 for its breakthrough innovation in sustainable packaging. Aligned with MIF’s mission to catalyse climate-positive technologies, Scale-Up will support Zerocircle in increasing production, improving cost structures, and accelerating market adoption. Support is currently in the early stages of planning.
