About Uravu Labs

Air contains nine times more water than all the world’s rivers combined, and Uravu Labs has pioneered a technology that harnesses this vast resource to produce clean, potable water. This innovative process utilises heat, air, and scientific principles to extract water from the atmosphere, creating an essentially limitless supply.

In simple terms, Uravu Lab’s technology exposes common desiccant materials like silica and calcium chloride to ambient air, allowing them to absorb moisture. These materials are then heated using renewable sources such as solar and biomass, converting the absorbed moisture into vapour. This vapour is subsequently condensed and recovered as pure water, which Uravu bottles and supplies to the hospitality and food and beverage sectors under the trademark ‘Water from Air’.

Since 2017, Uravu’s efforts have conserved over 2.07 lakh litres of groundwater* and prevented the use of 3,400 tonnes* of single-use plastic.

Uravu’s overarching objective is to revolutionise the beverage industry, which annually consumes over 1,500 billion litres of water, by lessening its dependence on freshwater sources. To this end, the company has successfully conducted pilot projects with major beverage manufacturers.

Uravu at MIF’s Scale-Up

Uravu Labs was inducted into MIF’s no-equity accelerator in January 2023. Since then, it has been mentored by a team of experts at Marico including Head of Quality Shailesh Ghodekar, Works (Guwahati) Head Gajanan Naik, Associate Manager of Critical Quality Assurance (CQA) Senthilkumar G, and Executive, CQA, Sakshi Dhavle.

One of the biggest leaps that Uravu has taken in its time at Scale-Up, so far, is the establishment of a new bottling unit—complete with automatic machines—at their manufacturing facility in Bengaluru. It was hand-held through this process by mentors, with a special focus on the development of standard operating procedures, process flow charts, compliance, and quality control measures.

As of April 2024, Uravu Labs continues to be a part of Scale-Up
