Kudumbashree in Kerala works with a staff of only 100. But the organization has identified and covered 29 families considered ‘at risk’ for poverty, organized the women into saving and SHGs that have saved Rs.362 crores with Rs.669 crores in circulation as loans, and they have generated about 48,000 micro enterprises.

Kudumbashree’s uniqueness is its ability to motivate and use the Panchayats as force multipliers. It has achieved all the above by using just the thrift of the poor and Panchayati funds. Its goal is to eliminate poverty in Kerala by 2007 and it works on the premise that by 2007 it will wind up, its job done.
