According to the UNDP’s Human Development
Index that measures progress in life expectancy,
education and adjusted real income, India is ranked
near the bottom end of the ‘middle development
category’ (nations are categorized as having
high/medium/low human development). Over the last
13 years, India has moved only marginally on the
development scale – it was ranked 130th
in 1990 and it is ranked 127th now. How is the
future going to be any different?
If we keep approaching our challenges of education,
health and reducing poverty in the same way as
we have in the last decades, the result will continue
to be the same. What India clearly needs are ‘Innovative
Strategies and Solutions’ that can make
a quantum jump.
