Barista
In years of downturn, Barista has successfully
created a unique business model that has boosted
demand. They have launched their espresso bars
as a ‘third place’, where customers
can relax and feel comfortable, as they do in
the two other places: home and office. To do this,
Barista has created an ambience in which a customer
can ‘engage’ himself in a variety
of activities.
At Barista, the customer is truly king. He can
order exotic drinks, if he feels like it, or he
can just sit there and talk to a friend or read
a newspaper or strum a guitar that is lying around.
The waiter/server concept has been made obsolete.
In his place, there is a Barista professional
who straddles between helping the customer at
his request (and not before) and making the customer
comfortable (by leaving him be). Barista has converted
a ‘hang out’ joint into a flourishing
business. While the customer pays for coffee (if
he so chooses to order), what he gets is an experience.
It is this unique experience that has led to Barista
becoming a leading player in the café coffee
business.
