| Marico Innovation Foundation institutionalised the “Innovation for India Awards” to recognize the greatest innovations to come out of India in the recent past - innovations that have positively impacted our lives and have at their core a great idea coupled with a unique insight. |

The aim of the Innovation for India Awards:

Give formal recognition to a company, organization or government body that has been successful in introducing an innovation. |
|
Provide publicity to innovations that have been successfully implemented and where other companies or government agencies could benefit from the learning. |

Aim to inspire budding innovators and provide a forum for learning. |

Business leveraging social innovation category: Innovations in the social sector by a business organization |

Social Category: Innovations in the social sector by a social organization impacting Health/ Poverty/ Education |

Public Service Category: innovations where the Central or State government or any wing of the government including public-private partnership has innovated. |

There is also a special recognition known as the “Global Game Changer” Award. This recognition in the past has been awarded to the recent “greatest innovation” in India, which is not only a ground-breaking global innovation but is also one, which heralds the emergence of a new, bold and ambitious innovative India. Tata Motors for Nano and Bharti Enterprises for the Telecom Revolution in India have been recognized as Global Game Changers in the past |

| This year, a total of 432 entries were received. Of these 186 entries are Innovations in Business Products/ Process/ Services/ Models, 76 are in Business leveraging social innovation category. 145 applications have come in the Social Category. And 25 entries are for Innovations in the Public Service category. |

The Awards follow a transparent evaluation system with a Knowledge Partner – Bain & Company and an Eminent Jury panel led by Dr R A Mashelkar.

The selection process:
The selection process is unique- in completeness and depth of activities. 7 stages:
|
Stage 1: Invitation of applications: Applications should be submitted by a company / organization / government body, or nominated by a third party. All applications should be submitted by using the form provided, on or before 16th September, 2011 |

Stage 2: Bain & Co. screening: Each Application will be reviewed: |

|
Objectively and independently by two reviewers |
|
Ratings will be totaled |
|
| All the Applications have to be reviewed and the top innovations will be selected for Stage 3. Each application would be assessed using Evaluation Criteria around Uniqueness, Impact and Sustainability of the Innovation. |

|
Stage 3: Technical panel: The selected candidates would then be sent to an independent panel of technical experts who would be eminent individuals with expertise in their domain. They would also assess each candidate using same using Evaluation Criteria around Uniqueness, Impact and Sustainability of the Innovation. |

|
Stage 4: In-context audit: A first-hand audit will be conducted to validate the selected innovations. Innovation auditors will visit the location where these innovations have been deployed and / or through a random audit with those who have got impacted. |

Stage 5: Jury Phase 1: The jury would be made up of eminent business and social leaders who would review the top entries and further shortlist potential candidates. |
| |
|
Stage 6: Tele-verification: A Detailed tele-verification of all candidates shortlisted after first presentation to the Jury will be done to answer any queries raised by the jury. |

Stage 7: Jury Phase 2: Using the same evaluation parameters, the jury will select the winners. |
