year’s winning innovations reflected the developments
not only within business but also the social sectors
which positively impacted various facets of human
and social life. These ingenious innovations broke
new ground in business & industry. Evalueserve,
sparked off the KPO industry in India which is today
expected to grow to 11.2 $B by 2010-2011, with its
unique business model based on creating and maintaining
a cost effective knowledge pool from which its clients
can pick and choose tailor-made services & solutions
MICO’s Common
rail system, Su-kam’s Power Hardware and
Titan’s ‘Slimmest water resistant
watch of the world’, took innovations in
product and technology, to new heights.
The impact on environment
and social life was prominent with innovations
such as the meticulous ‘Ecoflo Pump’
- only foot operated treadle pump by the Bhinge
Brothers and the paint sludge – recycling
technology brought forth by Maharani Paints. The
Foundation also announced a Special Award, to
recognize the Azim Premji Foundation for its joint
initiative of the ‘learning guarantee programme’
with state governments of Karnataka, MP, Uttarakhand,
Rajasthan and Gujarat.
The Innovation for India Awards
2008 also witnessed breakthrough innovations such
as the ‘World's largest pumping scheme’,
a gargantuan business innovation by Kirloskar
Brothers that synergised business and social objectives,
impacting both. Thanks to this innovation the
Sardar Sarovar project has become affordable,
benefiting nearly 60% of Gujarat's population
through availability of water in its most arid
regions - Saurashtra and Kutch. The project is
said to have a huge impact on the environment
in terms of the savings of 8.5 MW a year translating
to an environmental impact that lowers the carbon
footprint by that amount.
To celebrate India’s
pride – The Nano, the foundation declared
Tata Motors: Nano, the Global Game Changer. Mr.
Ravi Kant, MD Tata Motors received the Global
Game Changer Award on behalf of Company. This
award was specially created to salute Tata Group’s
passion and zeal behind the creation of the NANO.
Dr Mashelkar called the day of unveiling NANO
“the Red Letter day of the National Innovation
movement”. This was a special achievements
by the group that heralds the emergence of a new,
bold and ambitious innovative India.
The Grand Finale of the Innovation
for India Awards was marked by an inspiring discussion
between Actor, Director Aamir Khan and Ad-Guru
cum Lyricist Prasoon Joshi. The duo took the audience
through their understanding of innovation and
creativity and its application in the world of
cinema and advertising. Aamir and Prasoon shared
interesting anecdotes about their creative differences
during the making of the title song from the acclaimed
movie ‘Taarein Zameen par’. Aamir
concluded by emphasizing that the role of innovation
was in continuously providing the audiences with
what they want and yet surprising them. Prasoon
added – that Innovators were only mediums
between creative thoughts and its implementation.
The Innovation for India Awards
had commenced with an opening speech by Dr. R
A Mashelkar, who rightly said “the next
key milestones for the India, will be determined
by its mutual growth and evolution with respect
to the power of innovative thought, and the ability
of our innovators to innovate.”
The night saw the best of
Indian Innovations awarded amongst the best of
Indian minds and as most would agree, the real
winner was the future of India! |
